Almost every love story has the potential to begin as if it were a fairy tale. “Once upon a time, two people fell passionately in love. Their love was unlike any other they had in the past.” Relationship beginnings are wonderful and they can experience a rebirth with a wedding, honeymoon, and an exciting first year of marriage. Once a couple begins to grow and their lives change with jobs, children, social activities, and other commitments, maintaining the intimacy and romance becomes more difficult. Sometimes intimacy and romance gets lost altogether.
Do you want to reignite the passion in your relationship, but you don’t know where to start? Start at the beginning. Think about the things you two did in the beginning of the relationship. Now, if you two were never that romantic, that’s okay. It’s never too late to start. In most new relationships, it’s the little things to show intimacy and affection that mean the most.
Start whispering with one another more. Around the kids, in public, with family and friends. It doesn’t have to be anything private. Whispering displays a level of intimacy that both of you will appreciate. Sometimes, just whisper to each other, “I love you.” Hearing that from one another is always good, but it’s even better when it’s secret. You may not consider yourself to be a writer, but writing your partner a long love letter is a good way to be romantic.
If you don’t want to write a letter, send one another text with a list of things you love about one another. Call each other and talk softly and lovingly. The point here is, be creative. Sometimes couples feel more comfortable displaying intimacy and romance by giving gifts. Randomly send romantic and/or humorous greeting cards to one another at the workplace. Hide them around the house where you know he or she will find them.
These suggestions are simply ideas to get you started in an effort to bring intimacy and romance back into your union. You may have your own ideas and those are most likely better than anything offered here. Once you open this door to rescuing your relationship, other steps will be easy and fun.
